No one is here right now so just
make yourself comfortable.
This film represents a collection of archival 8mm footage, ephemera, voices and sounds. The original footage was shot by my father. After his death, the footage was found in our family home in a suitcase. Some of it had never been seen. The edited piece is a collaboration between a father's vision and daughter's response to that vision. What results is partly me, partly family and a slice of southern American culture from 1942-1970. I look at this project as a collaboration with my father even though he is not living. It was an opportunity for me to see through his eyes and to take something he began years ago and give it new life. The images of people and places in his films are permanently fixed within the celluloid, independent of the changes and losses of time. People pass on and the places and things we hold dear disappear. It is a reminder to embrace the fleeting joys of life sooner rather than later.
